GIRLS DO READ .."u can help yourself"

An old saying "God helps those who help themselves". There is this particular thing I felt about crime against women is that somehow a woman is also responsible for these crimes. Its been six years since I am wandering in Delhi the sex capital as well as the nations capital, if any respect is spared for the city after that, few times I have seen a girl or woman stand up against teasing or plain attempt to ravish her dignity.
Let me give you a practical example...I have many girls studying with me and when asked about thier view about DOWRY all are against it but when it somes to their own marriage or their sisters marriage half of them are ok with dowry that her family has to give. If asked "Why don't you stand up agianst it?" the answer is "You don't know the situation in my family" or "I can't go against my family" or "What if the marriage breaks? my family will blame me." or "It is must for a good relationship between two families"
Astonishing I hear these answers form girls who have a master degree. Do we still think crime against women has got much to do with education when it somes to middle class families? The whole mind set has to change here.
Another example- I was just sad to see such behaviour infront of me...I was waiting for my bus to college and this incident happened. A guy followed a girl in his bike to the bus stand and passed lewd comments...the girl was continously trying to ignore that. The break point came when the guy tried to hold her hand, a big strong uncleji who was standing beside caught the guy and pulled him off his bike slapped him hard. He asked the girl to to accompany him to the police station and get an FIR written and he will drag that guy with him. Well the girl refused to go the police station saying she will have trouble with the police. That uncleji was really smart he left the guys collar and said to the girl "You know what you deserve this kind of treatment" In my opinion uncleji was right.
Its time to come out of your shy nature and raise a voice against such acts. If you don't no one can save you be it a few good people around you or God himself.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

  1. True, one has to stand up against the wrongs imposed on him/her. When you can't do that, how can you expect others to help you out!

At the same time, we need such good peoples like "uncleji" around, who can dare jump into such situations which are embarrassing to all but no one usually takes the steps to act against them.

I've written something similar sometime back on Ruchika's case...
